EU Grants 230 MiCA Licenses as Germany Leads Ahead of July Deadline
The European Union has approved approximately 230 licenses under its Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) Regulation, with Germany emerging as the clear leader. Data from Wu Blockchain reveals that 56 licenses have been granted in Germany, followed by the Netherlands with 26 and France with 21. This represents only a fraction of the 1,200+ crypto firms previously operating under national registrations.
With the MiCA transition period ending in July, companies failing to secure authorization will be forced to exit the EU market. The regulation establishes a unified supervisory framework across member states, marking the EU's first comprehensive crypto legislation. France's surprisingly low application rate has raised questions, while tighter rules threaten to squeeze smaller market participants.
